Too often I hear weight loss being broken down into simply eating less and exercising more. But if you’ve tried this, you’ve probably found it’s not that simple. There is so much more that needs to be considered.
That’s where holistic weight loss comes in. Holistic also known as wholistic focuses on the whole body and on overall health. And instead of addressing each piece separately holistic weight loss views each piece as interconnected.
A holistic weight loss approach looks at both mind and body when trying to achieve weight loss goals. With holistic weight loss, we go deeper than just counting calories. This approach makes health a priority instead of a number on the scale.
Here are some things that holistic weight loss includes:
How does your mind affect your ability to lose weight?
Hormonal balance is taken into account
A focus on exercise as not just a way to burn calories but as a way to improve overall health and your ability to lose fat. The right kind of exercise helps you to lower cortisol and burn fat.
Reducing stress to help facilitate weight loss
Let’s take a closer look at some of the aspects of holistic weight loss.
Eating whole foods
Your body was made to eat whole foods, not manufactured, packaged food. These foods are designed to make you want to eat more. Whole foods, on the other hand, fill you up with the right amount. They also provide you with all the necessary vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients and fibers to help your body function optimally and detox effectively and efficiently. What we eat in essence becomes our body - it's structure and biochemical interactions. If we eat junk, our body becomes junk and certainly shows us that by 'breaking down' like an old junk car.
Eating mindfully
How you eat is almost as important as what you eat. When you slow down and pay attention to the act of eating you’ll start to discover many things. You’ll discover the tastes of delicious whole foods, you’ll allow your body’s satiety mechanism to kick in and you’ll notice which foods agree with you and which don’t.
Eating mindfully also aids digestion by reducing cortisol and bringing blood back to the digestive system.
Food intolerances and allergies
Even healthy foods can cause issues if you are allergic or intolerant to them. Food intolerance and allergies can contribute to weight gain and of course other health issues.
Having foods we don't tolerate causes physical stress on the body and immune system. Any kind of stress means the body will focus on managing that rather than burning fat. Thus fat burning gets put as less priority.
Hormones that effect your weight
Your hormones There are 9 hormones that effect your weight and make a big contribution to your ability to lose weight. Some hormones contribute directly to your ability to lose weight by reducing your metabolism or by increasing fat storage. Other hormones contribute to cravings and feelings of hunger.
Moving your body
Getting the right amount of exercise at the right time is key to a fat loss program. With holistic weight loss, the whole body is taken into account so that exercise along with your diet leaves you feeling calm and invigorated, not worn out and stressed by how many calories you are burning.
Medical reasons for weight gain
Have you ever had the feeling that it didn’t matter how little you ate, you still couldn’t lose weight? There might be something else going on. Because holistic weight loss looks at the whole body, I can help discover other reasons that you are having trouble losing weight.
Reducing stress and getting enough sleep
The mind body connection is not considered often enough with conventional health and weight loss methods. Stress and lack of sleep can contribute to weight gain in direct and indirect ways.
Holistic weight loss is individualized
Ever heard someone say “It worked for me, so it will work for you, too”? Every body is different and everyone has different reasons why losing weight is difficult.
My holistic weight loss method is not a cookie cutter approach. It is tailored and handcrafted by me.
Holistic weight loss is good for your health
Surprisingly, many methods of weight loss are not good for your health. The focus on simply eating less, or on packaged diet foods doesn’t provide you with the most nutritious foods. Most weight loss methods can result in muscle loss, digestive issues, higher stress and poor sleep. All of which keep you from maintaining the weight loss.
Is holistic weight loss backed by science?
While holistic weight loss can include non scientific methods, my approach to holistic weight loss is backed by years of scientific research. My signature methods are also based on what has worked for thousands of clients who have had success with my programs.
What are the benefits of holistic weight loss?
With my holistic weight loss programs, you’ll not only lose body fat, but improve your whole quality of life. Some of the benefits include:
• experience more energy
• better sleep
• better digestion
• balanced hormones naturally
• improved immunity
